Four appointed to Board of Certified Court Reporters

The Mississippi Supreme Court has appointed a new member to the Board of Certified Court Reporters and reappointed three members.

The new appointee is freelance court reporter Theresa Lumley of Wesson. The Mississippi Court Reporters Association nominated Lumley, who has been a court reporter for 28 years, to serve on the Board.

Chief Justice Mike Randolph signed the appointment order on May 26 on behalf of the unanimous Court. The justices also reappointed as Board members Circuit Judge David H. Strong of McComb, Court Reporter Huey Bang of Pass Christian and attorney Jerry D. Sharp of Laurel. Judge Strong, who has served as a Circuit Judge of the Fourteenth District of Lincoln, Pike and Walthall counties for almost 17 years, was nominated for reappointment by the Supreme Court. Bang, who has been a court reporter for more than 28 years, was nominated by the Mississippi Court Reporters Association. He is an official court reporter for the Second Circuit Court District of Harrison, Hancock and Stone counties. Sharp, nominated by the Mississippi Bar, has practiced law for about 20 years. He is a sole practitioner, with his practice primarily in Chancery Court.

All appointive terms on the Board extend through June 30, 2025.

Court reporters are professional stenographers who record, transcribe and create an official record of court proceedings. The Mississippi Legislature created the nine-member Board of Certified Court Reporters to oversee the licensing of certified court reporters and the granting of temporary permission to noncertified and nonresident court reporters.
